NewfoundlandNewfoundland was the last to join Canada (1949) and is the Dominion's most easterly province. Newfoundland has a rich history. St. John's, the provincial capitol, is considered to be the oldest city in English speaking North America. Newfoundland's time zone is set one half hour ahead of the North American East Coast. Municipalities include: St. John's (the capitol, pop. 98,182), Mount Pearl, Corner Brook, Conception Bay South and Grand Falls-Windsor. Labrador is a part of the province and it contains about 5-6% of the total population. Fishing and tourism are central to the economy.
