A casita is an option generally chosen to replace a separate third car garage or and extra bedroom/ studio. The casita can be a separate freestanding structure or attached to the main house, as shown in the picture to the left. 
The casita option is often used as an office and will have its own private entrance. 
In this floorplan the casita was a 4th bedroom with a hallway extending to it.
